About Ichilov Hospital

Ichilov Hospital at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (TASMC) is part of one of Israel’s largest and most advanced healthcare institutions, which also includes Lis Maternity and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Dwek Children’s Hospital and the Ida Sourasky Rehabilitation Hospital. With over 1,500 beds and over 1.6 million patients treated annually, Ichilov is a national leader in acute care, trauma, and complex procedures. As a key partner of Tel Aviv University, and with cutting-edge research facilities and a deep commitment to digital innovation, Ichilov plays a central role in advancing medical science and patient care in Israel.

The challenge

The critical care units and operating rooms at Ichilov rely on a wide range of medical devices that continuously generate clinical data. Integrating this information into the patient record in a consistent and usable way is essential for effective clinical decision-making.

The hospital needed a system capable of connecting to the many devices used across its ICUs, operating rooms, and neonatal care while presenting the data in an intuitive and easy-to-navigate format. Clinicians needed to quickly understand a patient’s status and timeline. And the IT team required full visibility into how information moved through the system, from bedside devices to the clinical record.

To meet the disparate clinical and technical needs, Ichilov sought a platform that could reliably integrate device data, present it clearly for clinicians, and support customized workflows for different departments.

The solution

Ichilov Hospital implemented MetaVision to support its critical care and operating room environments, connecting the system to a wide range of medical devices across these departments. The platform captures clinical data from monitors, ventilators, and other equipment and incorporates it into the patient record.

The way patient information is organized allows clinicians to follow the patient timeline and review key clinical details in context. The system also gives the IT department flexibility to integrate devices and adapt the platform to the needs of different clinical departments.

The results

With MetaVision in place, clinicians at Ichilov can view patient data in structured, easy-to-navigate displays that make complex clinical information easier to interpret. The horizontal presentation allows physicians to quickly review vital signs and other measurements alongside key clinical events.

The system has also improved visibility for the hospital’s IT team. Shay Look, IT & Projects Manager at Ichilov, explains that it allows him to trace the full path of data through the system, from the moment a monitor sends information until it reaches the interface server and enters the clinical record.

“I can see the whole flow and the entire data transfer,” he notes, describing how this visibility helps the technical team manage device connectivity and ensure reliable data exchange.

Additional benefits include:

“I have access to every aspect, whether it’s from the server-side, to the stations, all the way to the monitors and all the equipment. I can view the entire flow, from the moment the monitor starts sending the data, the HL7, until the moment it reaches the interface server… I can literally see the whole flow and the entire data transfer.”
